What's left behind the scenes

  • In the scene of buying a bicycle in the store, a license plate can be seen above the seller (Stephen King): a yellow plate with the text “CQB 241”. This is the number from the 1958 Plymouth Fury from the 1983 film “Christine,” which is an adaptation of King's novel of the same name.
  • The film broke the record for the amount of fake blood used in a horror film. There were 19,000 liters in just one scene.
  • The role of Richie in this adaptation was written with actor Bill Hader in mind, but the screenwriters kept in mind that the role could go to someone else. When Hader officially joined the cast, the role was slightly “tailored” to him.
  • The members of the so-called “Losers’ Club” had to shave their heads and raise the pitch of their voices for this film.
  • During the filming of a fight with a monster in the guise of a clown, James McAvoy, who played Bill, was injured.
  • On the side of the Native American artifact, Mike depicts a circle with one large dot and several small ones. This is a symbol of the Dark Tower. Stephen King's novels from the Dark Tower cycle are also mentioned in his other works – for example, 'It' (1986), 'The Shining' (1977), 'The Stand' (1978), and others. In the sixth book of the cycle, 'Song of Susannah' (2004), it is stated that It is one of the six greatest demons. It is opposed by Maturin the turtle, one of the guardians of the Beams that converge in the Dark Tower, and It tries to destroy the Beams.
  • Isaiah Mustafa reread King's novel eight times before filming to better understand his character, Mike.
  • When working on the first film, applying Bill Skarsgård's clown makeup took 5 hours each time; now it only took 2.5 hours.
  • According to screenwriter Gary Dauberman, the scene in which Bill meets the junk dealer and buys an old bicycle was written into the script as a joke. The junk dealer in the script is written as a man very similar to Stephen King. Eventually, the filmmakers persuaded King himself to play the role.
  • Marlon Taylor, Jared Blancard, and Brandon Crane, who played Mike, Henry Bowers, and Ben as children in the film (Tommy Wallace, 1990), expressed a desire to reprise their roles, but only Crane ended up in the cast – and only in a cameo role as one of Ben’s architectural firm’s employees.
  • Both in the novel and in this film, Bill buys a bicycle as a child at a shop called “Secondhand Rose, Secondhand Clothes.” Shops with the same name also appear in other works by Stephen King, such as the novels “Insomnia” (1994) and “11/22/63” (2011).
  • Initially, director Andrés Muschietti wanted to portray Mike as a drug addict, but he later abandoned this idea.
  • Bill Skarsgård filmed the final confrontation scene wearing a motion capture suit.
  • The trailer briefly shows a scene in which Beverly tries to escape from the house she lived in as a child, and Pennywise is shown in human form. This is the only instance in which Bill Skarsgård is shown without clown makeup.
  • As the main characters descend into the sewers towards Pennywise's lair, Eddie initially has a scratch on his right cheek, and a few seconds later it's on his left.
  • James McAvoy, who played Bill, was injured during the filming of the fight scene with the monster in the form of a clown.
  • Isaiah Mustafa reread King's novel eight times before filming to better understand his character, Mike.
  • In the scene where a bicycle is purchased in the store, a license plate can be seen above the salesperson (Stephen King): a yellow sign with the text “CQB 241”. This is the number from the 1958 Plymouth Fury in the 1983 film “Christine”, which is a screen adaptation of King’s novel of the same name.
