What's left behind the scenes
- Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on screen in one of the early versions of the film, and subsequently repeatedly assisted the filmmakers with advice and ideas.
- Lil Rel Howery almost left the project at one point. This happened when they were mistakenly taken to the wrong barbershop for the filming of one of the scenes. The owner of the establishment was not pleased at all and attacked the actors with a knife. No one could help them, as security was at the barbershop where the filming was supposed to take place. When Howery later told Tiffany Haddish, with whom he had a friendly relationship, about what had happened, she convinced him not to leave the project, and soon producers decided to find a new actress for the role of Trina, which then went to Haddish.
