What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, the film was to be titled “Lexi,” but legal issues arose, and on the very first day of filming, Adam Devine, who played Phil, suggested replacing the first letter in the title “L” with “J.” That’s how the title under which the film was released (originally titled “Jexi”) came about.
  • Rose Byrne, who played the lead role, recorded her lines after filming had already wrapped. Because of this, Adam Devine was given an earpiece through which Lori Burke voiced the lines for the role of Lexi. The earpiece was faulty, and sometimes the actor had to perform entire scenes without hearing his partner.
  • Access to the filming locations was difficult due to the weather conditions (that season in San Francisco was unusually rainy), not to mention the government shutdown in early 2019. This prevented filmmakers from accessing some federal property in the city, requiring changes to the script and the search for new locations.
