What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Nicholas Cage thought the character of Havie was the most interesting, and he even asked to be considered for the role (Cage believed playing his biggest fan would be “cooler” than playing himself). He withdrew all his objections when Pedro Pascal was cast as Havie.
- After filming wrapped, each member of the film's cast received a pillow as a gift, featuring Nicholas Cage's image on the pillowcase and his autograph.
- According to Neil Patrick Harris, Nicholas Cage had to have tattoos covered with makeup for the role. When Harris asked Cage why his on-screen character didn't have as many tattoos as Cage himself, he replied that the on-screen Cage hadn’t had as many wives as the real Cage.
- The original script included a scene in which Nicholas Cage chases Quentin Tarantino to beg him for a role in his next film. Instead, it was decided to insert a cameo by director David Gordon Green.
