What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, Nicholas Cage thought the character of Havie was the most interesting, and he even asked to be considered for the role (Cage believed playing his biggest fan would be “cooler” than playing himself). He withdrew all his objections when Pedro Pascal was cast as Havie.
  • After filming wrapped, each member of the film's cast received a pillow as a gift, featuring Nicholas Cage's image on the pillowcase and his autograph.
  • According to Neil Patrick Harris, Nicholas Cage had to have tattoos covered with makeup for the role. When Harris asked Cage why his on-screen character didn't have as many tattoos as Cage himself, he replied that the on-screen Cage hadn’t had as many wives as the real Cage.
  • The original script included a scene in which Nicholas Cage chases Quentin Tarantino to beg him for a role in his next film. Instead, it was decided to insert a cameo by director David Gordon Green.
  • Nicholas Cage once stated in an interview that he probably would never watch this film. However, he was forced to watch it when, as a result of a conflict between director Tom Gormican and the studio, he was the one who had to decide whether to leave certain scenes in the film or cut them.
  • In the film, Nicolas Cage plays two fictionalized versions of himself. When Cage played his present self on set, his younger version, Nicky, was played by Nicolas Wittman. When Cage played the younger version of himself, his present self was played by Andras Korcsmaros. A similar method was used during the filming of Spike Jonze’s comedy-drama “Adaptation” (2002), where Cage also interacted with himself on screen.
  • During the filming of one scene, Pedro Pascal crashed 14 cars. He himself was not injured while performing the stunt.
  • In preparation for the role, Nicolas Cage reread his previous interviews. The appearance of his alter ego, Nicky, was based on Cage's own image during the periods when he gave those interviews, such as the outfit from David Lynch's thriller “Wild at Heart” (1990), consisting of boots, black jeans, and a black leather jacket.
  • Initially, Nicholas Cage found the character of Havi more interesting and even asked to be given the role, but Cage dropped his objections when Pedro Pascal was cast as Havi.

  • When Nicolas Cage played his present self, a younger version of him was portrayed by Nicolas Wittman. When Cage played a younger version of himself, his present self was played by András Kormár.
  • While preparing for the role, Nicolas Cage reread his interviews. The appearance of his alter ego, Nicky, mirrored Cage's own look during the periods when he gave those interviews, such as the outfit from the thriller 'Wild at Heart' – boots, black jeans, and a black leather jacket.
