What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on real events that took place in the Amur Region in 2019.
  • Sergey Burunov and Nikita Kukushkin were initially considered for the leading roles. Konstantin Khabensky and Vladimir Mashkov were also considered for the role of the father. Alexey Serebryakov originally auditioned for the role of the forester.
  • On-location shooting took place in Altai and Kamchatka. The village, whose inhabitants are attacked by rabid wolves, was found in Altai. The winter camp where the climactic scenes unfold was built there as well – on the Seminsky Pass near the Stone of Wishes. Filming in Altai began in December 2020. During filming, temperatures dropped to -40 °C.
  • The film features scenes with real wolves. They were brought in by the renowned Hungarian trainer Zoltán Horkai. Before this, his animals had appeared in various Hollywood projects, including the series "Game of Thrones".
