What's left behind the scenes

  • Over 1,000 young actors from the US and Canada auditioned for the voice role of Ryder, but the job ultimately went to Will Brisbin.
  • Originally, it was planned that the film would begin airing on Paramount+ 45 days after its theatrical release, i.e., approximately October 4, 2021. Then it was announced that the film would be released simultaneously in both theaters and on Paramount+ on August 20, 2021, thus becoming the first project from Paramount Pictures (and the first project from the Nickelodeon channel) to be released on the same day in theaters and on Paramount+.
  • Unlike the series, the character voiced by Keegan-Michael Key is comedic. Director Cal Brunker suggested Key make up words for his character during recording, and several lines are indeed improvised.
  • Initially, Janine Garofalo was supposed to voice Dolores, but Kim Kardashian ended up voicing her.
