- Even during the scriptwriting stage, Nancy Meyers only envisioned Jack Nicholson for the role of Harry.
- Twentieth Century Fox studio rejected the proposal to make this film, citing the fact that the main characters were too old.
- Jack Nicholson turned down filming in "Bad Santa" (2003) in order to participate in this film.
- Filming began on February 5, 2003. It took place in the vicinity of Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. Filming wrapped in July of the same year.
- The title "Something's Gotta Give" was taken from a 1954 song written by Johnny Mercer for Fred Astaire and Sammy Davis Jr.
