What's left behind the scenes

  • The immediate reaction of Ines Pont, widow of Jürgen Pont, whose murder is depicted in the film, after watching it was to refuse a state award for merit. She was angered that the FRG had never created a memorial to the victims of the RAF, but instead helped finance a film about members of the organization. Furthermore, she said, she was not warned that the film would show Pont's murder when she was invited to the premiere, and therefore felt humiliated by the producers who forced her to see the footage without warning. A month later, she sued the film's producers, who claimed that every scene was historically accurate, but the murder of her husband, which she witnessed from a neighboring room, was depicted incorrectly. She demanded that the scene of her husband's murder be removed from the film. The filmmakers stated that they had tried to contact her to find out details of the murder, but Ines Pont was unwilling to cooperate. Pont's murder had not been shown in the cinema before, and Ines believed that this dishonored her husband.
