What's left behind the scenes

  • Megatron is called D-16, which is a reference to the original Generation 1 Megatron toy released by Takara in 1984. The letter D stands for “Destron” (the name used for Decepticons in Japan at the time), while the number 16 indicates the serial number of the figure in the corresponding toy line.
  • While working on the voice of young Optimus Prime, Chris Hemsworth consulted with Peter Cullen, who voiced the character in the films.
  • Work on the film began back in 2015, when a decision was made to expand the franchise on the wave of success of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (2014).
  • According to director Josh Cooley, his generation was deeply traumatized by the large number of characters killed in the 1986 "Transformers" cartoon, so he wanted to create a project that wouldn't upset young viewers.
