What's left behind the scenes
- The prison where the main character, played by Idris Elba, finds himself at the beginning of the film is located in Dorchester, England. It was closed in 2014, and extensive renovations were required before filming could begin.
- The fight scene between the characters of Idris Elba and Andy Serkis was filmed at the abandoned Aldwych station of the London Underground. It opened in 1907 and closed in 1994. During World War II, the station was used to shelter some exhibits from the National Gallery and the British Museum.
- The underwater scenes were filmed at the “Lite Studios” in Brussels, Belgium, which houses the largest and deepest underwater filming tank in Europe.
