What's left behind the scenes
- Many of the characters' costumes are historically accurate, but there are some deviations in the details (for example, slightly lowered waistlines). Anne's image, as portrayed by Dakota Johnson, was given traits of resentment and impetuousness, typical of a tomboy (a collage of images of singers Debbie Harry and Patti Smith was used as a reference). As a result, Anne Elliot came to resemble a rock goddess of the 1970s.
- The costumes of Henry Golding (who played Mr. Elliot) and Cosmo Jarvis (who played Wentworth) reflect their personalities. Wentworth's clothing emphasized minimalism, allowing him to blend into any environment and atmosphere. Mr. Elliot's costumes, however, were much more refined to emphasize his self-confidence.
