Original Story

What's left behind the scenes

  • Michael Bay planned to shoot a low-budget film between Transformers movies. However, when the shooting schedule for the second Transformers film was delayed, Bay postponed his small project because he didn't want someone else to shoot the sequel.
  • Jonah Hill was offered a role in the film, but he turned it down after reading only the first twenty pages of the script.
  • Initially, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who wrote the screenplay for the first film, declined an offer to write the sequel due to commitments to other projects. However, after the studio deemed the scripts of other authors unacceptable, producers managed to convince Roberto and Alex to work on the second film.
  • The Autobot Hound, transforming into a military Jeep Wrangler, was added to the film at the request of the U.S. Department of Defense, after they noticed that in the first film, Decepticons were primarily transforming into military vehicles.
  • The sequel could have easily fallen victim to the writers' strike, but Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Ehren Kruger managed to finish the treatment the night before the strike began.
  • In July 2008, Shia LaBeouf was in an accident. The screenwriters had to incorporate his hand injury into the film.
  • Alex Kurtzman came up with the film's title. Roberto Orci wanted the film to be titled “Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye”.
  • Matthew Marsden was a fan of Transformers comics as a child.
  • Ehren Kruger joined the writing team largely due to his encyclopedic knowledge of the Transformers universe.
  • During casting and location scouting, the film was known under the working title “Prime Directive”.
  • Originally, the Autobot Arcee was supposed to appear in the first film.
  • The Decepticon Soundwave was intended to be in the first film, but work on his appearance was not completed on time. In the sequel, he will transform into a satellite.
  • The film is timed to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of 'Transformers' (1984).
  • The band 'Mutemath' recorded a rock version of the 'Transformers' (1984) musical theme, which was intended for use in the first film. The creators ultimately didn't find a place for it, but the composition will be used in the sequel.
  • Three action scenes were filmed with IMAX cameras.
  • According to Steve Jablonsky, the soundtrack to the sequel will feature elements of the original Transformers music theme. Steve had intended to include these elements in the first film's soundtrack, but his idea was rejected.
  • Real U.S. Navy sailors participated in some of the mass scenes.
  • Posters for two films – "Cloverfield" and "Bad Boys II" – can be spotted in the film. The poster for the first film references the screenwriters Kurtzman and Orci, who frequently collaborate with "Cloverfield" producer J.J. Abrams. And the poster for the second film references director Michael Bay, who directed "Bad Boys II".
  • The Devastator robot is as tall as a 10-story building.
  • When Devastator strikes the pyramid, his hand reaches a speed of 388 mph (626 km/h). If Devastator's parts were stacked on top of each other, they would form a tower 58 times taller than the famous Empire State Building in New York. The total length of Devastator's parts is about 13.7 miles (22 km).
  • During pre-production, Michael Bay stated that he would deliberately stage leaks of various false information online to generate hype around the film and discussion on various film websites.
  • The film features both one of the last remaining "classic" Seven Wonders of the World – the Great Pyramid of Giza – and one of the "new" 7 Wonders of the World – Petra in Jordan.
  • Processing time for a single IMAX frame is 72 hours per frame.
  • The ancient city of Petra, where Sam and the Autobots find the Prime hiding place, also served as the location for the climactic scene in Steven Spielberg's film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade".
  • Creating the first part of “Transformers” required 20 TB of disk space. Working on the second film barely accommodated 145 TB. For comparison, 145 TB is the volume of 35,000 DVDs. If you stacked that many discs without cases on top of each other, their height would be 44 meters.
  • Filming began the day after “Transformers” received the MTV Award for “Best Movie.”
  • Michael Bay planned to shoot a low-budget film in between Transformers movies. However, when the shooting schedule for the second Transformers film was postponed, Bay shelved his small project because he didn't want someone else to shoot the sequel.
