What's left behind the scenes

  • Processing each frame took from 4 to 13 hours.
  • In other, non-English language versions of the cartoon, the characters' mouths move in accordance with the voice and intonation of the voice actor. In addition, all inscriptions appearing on the screen were also adapted for each of the countries where the cartoon was released.
  • If you look closely at the video, you can make the following observation: the characters in the picture blink periodically, but never do so simultaneously.
  • The character Andy got his name in honor of Professor Andries 'Andy' Van Dam. Many of the film's creators studied in his courses on computer science and computer graphics.
  • The filmmakers admitted that they were inspired by the chase scene from 'Wallace & Gromit 2: The Wrong Trousers' (1993) when creating the scene of the chase after the van.
  • The name of one of the main characters of the cartoon – Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear – coincides with the name of the famous American astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
  • The number A113 appears in every Pixar film; it corresponds to the number of the classroom where John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, and Andrew Stanton studied at CalArts. In 'Toy Story,' A113 is the driver's license number on the windshield of Andy's mother's minivan.
  • The cartoon was released in an unusual format of 1.78:1 (the traditional format is 1.85:1).
  • Distributions of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system are named after the main characters of the cartoon.
  • The gas station 'Dinoco' appears in the cartoon. In 'Cars' (2006), Dinoco is one of the leading racing companies.
  • When Woody talks into the microphone about Andy's birthday, books with titles from early Pixar shorts are visible behind him. Among them are: "The Adventures of André & Wally Bee" (1984); "Knick Knack" (1989); "Luxo Jr." (1986); "Red's Dream" (1987); "Tin Toy" (1988).
  • When Buzz proves he can fly, a ball from the short film "Luxo Jr." (1986) is visible during his fall.
  • The van used to transport Andy's toys was called "EGGMAN"; this is also the name of the main villain from the Sonic the Hedgehog game series.
  • There is a globe in Andy's room. If you look closely, you can notice (especially when the globe almost crushes Buzz), that it depicts a map not of Russia, but of the USSR.
  • During the scene when Molly is riding in the front seat of the car, the same music as the opening theme of the "Timon & Pumbaa" (1995-1998) animated series is playing.
  • To get into Hannah's room, Woody hides in a string of Christmas lights. When he and Buzz emerge from it, the lights are gone, and in the next shot, they are back in their original place.
  • When Woody is announcing Andy’s birthday on the microphone, books with titles from early Pixar shorts are visible behind him. Among them: “The Adventures of André & Wally Bee” (1984); “Luxo Jr.” (1986); “Knick Knack” (1989); “Red’s Dream” (1987).
  • When Buzz proves he can fly, a ball from the short film “Luxo Jr.” (1986) can be seen during his fall.
  • In the episode where Molly is riding in the front seat of the car, the same music plays as from the opening credits of the animated series “Timon & Pumbaa” (1995-1998).
