- Jack McElhone was in the first group of children auditioned by Shona Auerbach for the role of Frankie. He beat over a hundred applicants for the part.
- In one scene, the Stranger is called Louis.
- When the film's director, Shona Auerbach, met Gerard Butler, she realized he was perfect for the role of the Stranger, although the character hadn't been fully developed in the script until the start of filming.
