- Walt Disney himself (1901-1966) was unaware of this, but screenwriter Bill Peet (1915-2002) based Merlin on him. This applies both to appearance (Merlin and Disney have the same noses) and character traits (they both love to argue, are both grumpy, but cheerful and very intelligent).
