What's left behind the scenes
- Director John McTiernan initially wanted to film “The Physician” in the evergreen tropical forests of Borneo, where he had shot the science fiction action film “Predator” five years earlier. However, after a reconnaissance expedition, he saw that everything had changed. The tropical forests were being destroyed and the previous locations were gone. This was a stark example of what the film “The Physician” depicted. McTiernan had to film in the remaining jungles in Mexico, importing Brazilian Indians for the shoot.
- Sean Connery’s hairstyle in this film exactly replicated the hairstyle of composer Jerry Goldsmith. Connery and the filmmakers felt that such a ponytail was very suitable for the image of Robert Campbell.
