What's left behind the scenes

  • Director, screenwriter, and producer Wes Anderson recounted how Ralph Fiennes prepared for the role of Roald Dahl. The filmmakers had recordings of Dahl reading his books (including “Fantastic Mr. Fox”), as well as documentaries about Dahl. During the filming of “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” Fiennes recreated Sugar’s workspace and tried to emulate his mannerisms. Anderson repeatedly asked Fiennes to improvise in various scenes.
  • Hanging on the wall is a copy of a painting purportedly by Russian and Soviet artist Ivan Klyun (Klyunkov, 1873-1943) titled “The Watchmaker.” The original is located at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (one of the largest art museums in the United States); however, doubts have recently emerged about its authenticity. At the beginning of 2024, the painting was removed from the exhibition due to these doubts, and the BBC filmed a documentary, “The Zak Case: Anatomy of a Fake Collection.” This painting also featured in Christopher Nolan’s drama “Oppenheimer” (2023).
