What's left behind the scenes

  • Most of the cast was selected just 5 days before filming began.
  • The film's ending had to be changed and reshot due to negative feedback from audiences during test screenings.
  • The film had been in development since 2003. This fact was revealed in an interview with the creators of the second film during the DVD release.
  • The filming of the 'roller coaster' incident involved a whole combination of tricks: some shots were filmed directly on a functioning ride (at an amusement park in the Canadian city of Vancouver), some shots were computer-generated, and part of the footage was shot using a specially built ride simulator – several cabins rotating in different planes. These shots were filmed against a green screen in one of the film pavilions.
  • The character named Lewis Romero was created in honor of the famous directors working in the 'horror' genre – Hershel Gordon Lewis and George A. Romero.
  • Chris Lemke took driving lessons for two days in a forklift for filming scenes in the hardware store.
  • The working title of this film was 'Final Destination 3-D'. Work on it began in 2003, immediately after the completion of the second film in the series.
  • Work on the film was completed at the end of 2005, but due to the reworking of several final scenes, its production ended on January 31, 2006, and the official premiere took place ten days later.
  • Alex Johnson broke her nose while filming one of the episodes.
  • The roller coaster scenes were filmed in Canada at Playland – part of the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver.
  • The DVD releases feature a branching narrative, allowing viewers to decide the fate of the characters.
  • Filming took place in Vancouver (Canada, British Columbia) from March 21 to June 29, 2005.
  • Actor Tony Todd, who played the morgue worker in the first two films, voices the mechanical voice of the carnival devil, the subway station dispatcher announcing the final stop, and his devilish laugh can be heard at the very end of the closing credits.
  • Most of the mobile phones shown in the film are Motorola Razr V3s.
  • The scenes in the hardware store were filmed over one night in a real warehouse store after it closed. The film crew's assistants put away the tools that had fallen during filming, and also covered up all the store's branding, as the owner did not want his company advertised in a "film about death and misfortune".
  • The actors had to ride the roller coaster 26 times in one night to film the opening scene of the movie.
  • The music playing on the radio in the car and in the subway car is Roy Drusky’s “Turn Around And Look At Me”.
  • “Drink responsibly” is written on the truck that blocks the car’s doors in the fast-food scene. The same inscription and emblem are present on the truck in the second part of the film during the highway crash scene.
  • The tanning bed scene was based on an American urban legend about a bride who died in this way on the eve of her wedding.
  • The sad song played at the funerals of Ashley Freund (Chelan Simmons) and Ashlyn Halperin (Crystal Lowe) was the same one that played at the burial of “Flight 180” in the first “Final Destination” film (2000).
  • Chelan Simmons, who played Ashley, and Crystal Lowe (who appeared on screen as Ashlyn) initially refused to sunbathe topless in the corresponding scene. However, the film's director, James Wong, explained that this would make the girls look more vulnerable and the entire scene more realistic. This was Simmons' first topless scene, and she was very nervous. Seeing this, Wong tried to help the actress relax and calm down and ordered the set to be cleared, leaving only himself and the camera operators.
  • The sad song played at the funeral of Ashley Freund (Chelan Simmons) and Ashlyn Halperin (Crystal Lowe) was the same one that played at the burial of "Flight 180" in the first "Final Destination" film (Final Destination, 2000).
  • The scene with the hammer falling onto the forklift controls in the store took 20 takes to film.
  • Originally, they planned to end the film with a celebration scene, but audiences at preview screenings didn't respond well to it. Then, a different ending was devised, in which Wendy (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) meets Kimberly Corman (played by A.J. Cook) and Thomas Burke (Michael Landes) in the subway, along with Ryan Merriman’s character (Kevin) and Amanda Kru’s character (Julia). They are two survivors from the horror film *Final Destination 2* (2003). It would then be revealed that Wendy, Julia, and Kimberly are cousins, and having all the survivors from *Final Destination 2* and *Final Destination 3* in one place at the same time would allow Death to finish them all off at once. However, it turned out that one of the actors was unable to come for additional filming, so two new characters – Wendy’s dorm neighbor and her friend – had to be introduced into the scene. The fate of Kimberly and Thomas is explained in the DVD release.
  • The character named Lewis Romero was named after famous directors working in the horror genre – Hershel Gordon Lewis and George A. Romero.
  • The mournful song played at the funeral of Ashley Freund (Chelan Simmons) and Ashlyn Halperin (Crystal Lowe) was the same one that played at the burial of “Flight 180” in the first “Final Destination” movie (2000).
  • Originally, the film was intended to end with a celebration scene, but the audience at preview screenings did not like this ending. Then a different ending was devised, in which Wendy (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) meets Kimberly Corman (played by A.J. Cook) and Thomas Burke (Michael Landes), two survivors from the horror film “Final Destination 2” (2003), in the subway along with Ryan Merriman’s character Kevin and Amanda Kru’s character Julia. It would then be revealed that Wendy, Julia, and Kimberly are cousins, and the presence of all the survivors from “Final Destination 2” and “Final Destination 3” in one place at the same time would allow Death to finish them all off at once. However, it turned out that one of the actors was unable to come to the additional shooting, so two new characters – Wendy’s dorm neighbor and her friend – had to be introduced into the scene. The fate of Kimberly and Thomas is explained in the DVD edition.
