What's left behind the scenes

  • It took 6 years to make the animated film, from the initial idea to its release, including 15 months of shooting. The film's release was announced only two years before its scheduled date, which is unusual for projects from Aardman Animations studio.
  • As director and screenwriter Nick Park recounted in an interview, the initial idea was to make a 30-minute short film about Wallace creating Normbot simply to help him, but they couldn’t come up with a convincing reason for something to go wrong. The penguin had to be introduced to the plot when the screenwriters decided to add a revenge motive (which made the conflict more personal for the main characters), and the project’s length increased noticeably.
