What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took place in Vancouver (Canada, British Columbia) from February 18 to May 3, 2002.
  • The song "Rocky Mountain High" by John Denver – a famous musician who died in a plane crash – plays during the elevator scene in the film.
  • In the opening credits of the film, you can notice the following frame: the letter "T" is obscured in the inscription "ROAD TRIP". Instead of "TRIP," it becomes the abbreviation "RIP" – "Rest in peace."
  • In the episode preceding Evan's death, the letter "H" falls off the magnetic letters on the refrigerator from the word "HEYE", leaving the word "EYE". This can be interpreted as a "sign," as a ladder subsequently "goes into" Evan's eye.
  • In the scene where logs begin to fall onto the highway, causing an accident, they initially tried using real logs. However, they lacked the necessary flexibility and didn't bounce off the road surface effectively, so they were replaced with computer-generated logs.
  • The highway pile-up was inspired by a multi-car accident that occurred on March 14, 2002, in Georgia. Due to adverse weather conditions (dense fog), approximately 125 vehicles were involved, resulting in 4 fatalities and at least 39 injuries of varying severity. The accident caused a traffic jam several kilometers long.
  • The news anchors featured in the film are actually real news presenters from local broadcasts operating near Vancouver, Canada.
  • Screenwriters Eric Bress and J. Mack Gruber wrote this script after Benderspink Entertainment read the screenplay for the science fiction film "The Butterfly Effect" (Eric Bress and J. Mack Gruber, 2003). They agreed to write "Final Destination 2" only on the condition that they would be allowed to film "The Butterfly Effect." As a result, that film was also released in 2003.
  • Initially, Devon Sawa was supposed to reprise the role of Alex, but this did not happen due to a dispute between the actor and New Line Cinema. The film ultimately features a newspaper article reporting Alex’s death by a brick falling on his head. This is also mentioned by Eli Larter’s character to A.J. Cook’s character, albeit without details.
  • Tim (played by James Kirk) was originally intended to be 9 years old. Then his age was changed to 13. Ultimately, New Line Cinema executives decided that killing off children was a bad idea, and Tim was made fifteen.
  • In the film, during the elevator scene, John Denver's song "Rocky Mountain High" plays – a famous musician who died in a plane crash.
