What's left behind the scenes

  • Businessman Irv, who rented the Munro family the RV trailer, is director Barry Sonnenfeld. His figure is depicted in a somewhat comical way on one side of the bus.
  • The RV park for family RV trailers, scripted to be located in Nevada, is actually situated in the vicinity of Vancouver, Canada. For this reason, the view of the sky in the background was altered using computer graphics to prevent tall buildings and city lights from appearing in the frame.
  • The role of Cassie Munro was originally intended for Carlee Schroeder, who dropped out of the project due to her commitment to "Firewall" (2006). Davey Chase also auditioned for the role.
  • A photograph of Freddy Adu, who was Yo-Yo Levski's boyfriend at the time of filming, can be seen next to Cassie's bed in the RV trailer.
  • While trying to lure the raccoon that has invaded the RV out, Bob Munro (Robin Williams) calls it Rocky. This is a direct reference to the famous song by The Beatles, "Rocky Raccoon".
  • Barry Sonnenfeld's daughter, Chloe Sonnenfeld, played the role of Moon Gornick, which was her first full-fledged acting role in a film. Before that, she appeared in cameo roles in three of her father's previous projects: "Men in Black" (1997), "Big Trouble" (2002), and "Men in Black II" (2002).
  • Jeff Daniels, a big fan of camping and a nomadic lifestyle, has owned an RV similar to the one used in the film for many years. Due to the difficulties in handling the large vehicle, special driving lessons were scheduled before filming, but they were immediately canceled when the actor arrived on set in his own RV.
  • In Carl Munro's (Josh Hutcherson) room, you can notice posters of famous rappers Nas and Eminem and wrestling star John Cena, who has also released a rap album and several singles.
  • Jeff Daniels performed all the banjo playing in the musical scenes entirely on his own.
  • In one scene, when Bob Munro (Robin Williams) is talking to his son Carl, he mentions the film “Jack” (1996), in which he also played the lead role.
  • Jeff Daniels wrote a song called “Recreational Vehicle” about his own amusing adventures with family RVs, which was included on his charity album “Jeff Daniels Live and Unplugged.”
  • A character named John Vagushin previously appeared in films by Barry Sonnenfeld. In "Road to Perdition," Bob Munro mentions a friend by that name, and in "Big Trouble" (2002), that was the name of the hijacked plane's pilot.
  • All three of the Hornick children are named after former football stars from the NFL team "Houston Oilers": Earl (Earl Campbell), Moon (Warren Moon), and Billy (Billy Johnson).
  • The "Happy Max" bus horn of the Hornick family plays the musical theme from the TV series "Star Trek" (1966-1969).
  • The film's tagline, "On A Family Vacation, No One Can Hear You Scream," is a slightly modified version of the tagline from Ridley Scott's famous film "Alien" (1979), "In space, no one can hear you scream."
