What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was released under the title "Shoot to Kill" – literally "Fire to Destroy" – in all markets. In the UK, however, it was released as "Deadly Pursuit." This was because a mass shooting had recently occurred in the UK, and the title was changed in light of that.
  • The identity of the killer is not revealed until the middle of the film. To prevent his discovery, the criminal kills one of the fishermen and takes his place. To keep the audience guessing for as long as possible, actors already known for playing "bad guys" – Clancy Brown, Frederick Coffin (1943-2003), and Andrew Robinson – were specifically cast in the roles of some of the fishermen.
