What's left behind the scenes

  • China Anne McClain and Melanie Paxson (playing Uma and the fairy, respectively) are the only actresses who appeared in previous installments of the franchise and reprise their roles here. McClain appeared in two sequels to Kenny Ortega's television film, Descendants (2015), which launched the franchise, and Paxson in three.
  • The film traditionally ends with the phrase: “You understand, don’t you, that this is not the end… Right?”
  • The fate of Carlos (played by Cameron Boyce) is not directly revealed to the audience, but he appears to have passed away. One of the characters says, “He would have wanted it this way” and cries while looking at a portrait of Carlos on the wall.
