Short description
Diagnosed with leukemia, a successful orchestra conductor learns that he is adopted, and his younger brother is in a village marching band. The conductor decides to help them win a regional contest.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The role of Jimmy was specifically written for Pierre Lottin, but in the script he was the older brother, and finding an actor for the role of Thibault proved difficult. They had to make Jimmy the younger brother, after which Benjamin Laverne was cast as Thibault.
  • The film was shot in the north of France. Regarding which orchestra to invite for the filming, director and screenwriter Emmanuel Courcol consulted with another director who had previously filmed a documentary on a similar topic in the same locations. Courcol and other filmmakers, as advised, went to watch one of the orchestras rehearse, and after the rehearsal, they shared a couple of beers with the musicians. The musicians proved to be very friendly, and their rehearsal space was exactly as Courcol had imagined it, so the orchestra issue was resolved.
  • Pierre Lottin plays percussion, guitar, and piano, making him a suitable candidate for the role. However, he was taught to conduct an orchestra for four months before the start of filming and during filming. Pierre Lottin learned to play the piano independently. Before filming began, he practiced the trombone for a long time in order to convincingly portray amateur trombone playing during filming.
  • Sarah Suco (who played Sabrina) plays the accordion, and she took trumpet lessons before filming.
  • Several years before the release of "Brothers in Harmony," Emmanuel Courcol participated in the work on the short film "Confetti on Concrete" (Aurian Bondue and Marie-Sophie Chambon, 2017) about a group of majorettes and their orchestra in the north of France. The orchestra made a lasting impression on him and inspired him to write a story about the conflict between a conductor with a classical education and the musicians of a typical orchestra playing in street parades.
