The film 'Miss Congeniality' (Donald Petrie, 2000) originally planned to include a plotline about the death of Gracie Hart's mother while on duty. This plotline was incorporated into the sequel.
Gracie's bodyguard, Sam Fuller, was named after Samuel Fuller (1912-1997), an American film director who became famous in the 1960s for his low-budget genre films.
When Joel refers to Fuller and Hart as "Ebony and Ivory," this is a reference to the song of the same name performed by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.
