Short description
When a hunter sent back to the prehistoric era runs off the path he must not leave, he causes a chain reaction that alters history in disastrous ways.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The plot is based on the short story of the same name by Ray Bradbury.
  • Filming of the picture was completed in 2002. A release was planned for 2003. However, the distributing company went bankrupt and did not have sufficient funds to finish the film.
  • Renny Harlin was supposed to direct the film, and Pierce Brosnan was to play the main role. But Harlin removed a key element of the story – a butterfly on one of the characters’ shoes, brought from prehistoric times to the present.
  • In 2002, during filming in the Czech Republic, the crew encountered a flood unprecedented in history, paralyzing life throughout much of Europe. The sets, the actors, and even the filming process itself were affected, extending the production timeline considerably.
  • The Spota supermarket is named after the director’s wife’s maiden name.
  • The owner of the time safari company compares his clients to Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, and the like. Among them is one Charles Brubaker, the first to land on Mars. This is a character from Haims’ other film, “Capricorn One” (1977). Charles Brubaker was played by actor James Brolin.
  • Reptiles with mammalian characteristics (therapsids) did indeed exist, but became extinct long before the end of the dinosaur era.
