What's left behind the scenes
- The piece Charlotte plays during Monte Wildhorn's visit to their home, and which Wildhorn and his two guests hear, is the second part of Sonata No. 8, "Pathétique," by Ludwig van Beethoven.
- Annette Bening was originally slated to play the lead female role, but she left the project and was replaced by Virginia Madsen.
- In a 2012 interview with Huffington Post, Virginia Madsen noted that, despite Morgan Freeman having been in film for over 50 years, she was the first on-screen passion of his character.
- Although for most of the film the protagonist can only control his right hand, he is able to control his left hand at the end of the film when he embraces Flora.
- In the car scene, Flora only wears a seatbelt during close-ups.
