In 1989, the film and its sequels were shown on Soviet television in the television almanac 'Around the World' (an attachment to the program 'Travel Club') in 15-minute segments. The film became cult among young people and spurred a growing interest in Eastern martial arts in the USSR.
Although the Shaolin Monastery actually exists, the level of proficiency in martial arts of its monks is greatly exaggerated.
