Short description
An obese lawyer finds himself growing "Thinner" when an old gypsy man places a hex on him. Now the lawyer must call upon his friends in organized crime to help him persuade the gypsy to lift the curse. Time is running out for the desperate lawyer as he draws closer to his own death, and grows ever thinner.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Stephen King appeared in a cameo role as Dr. Bangor, a pharmacist.
  • Robert John Burke lost 9 kilograms for the role.
  • During filming, the screenwriter and director suffered from Bell's palsy (idiopathic, the most common form of facial nerve neuropathy), which paralyzed one side of his face. Immediate injection could have minimized the effects, but due to the producers, he didn't see a doctor for 36 hours. It took him more than a year and a half to fully recover.
  • Robert John Burke spent between 4 and 6 hours in the makeup chair daily – depending on his character's appearance.
  • Preparing to film the movie took Tom Holland 6 years. Filming was repeatedly postponed, in particular because producers feared the public would attribute the misfortunes of the main character to having AIDS.
  • The film's release was scheduled for May 3, 1996, but it was pushed back to October because audiences disliked the ending at preview screenings, and in April the film crew returned to Maine for reshoots.
  • The film is set in Connecticut, but was shot in Maine, where Stephen King wrote the original literary work (1984).
