- The film debuted at number two at the box office during its opening weekend (ceding the top spot only to "Rising Sun" (1993) starring Sean Connery). Ultimately, the film became the highest-grossing American horror film of 1993.
- The film's director, Adam Marcus, worked as a production assistant for Sean Cunningham on the set of the first film in the series when he was 12 years old.
- Originally, the film was to be directed by Tobe Hooper.
- Tony Todd was considered for the role of Duke.
- The heart eaten by the pathologist was made of gelatin and filled with grape jelly.
- The creators added scenes with tourists only after the first screening.
- Director Adam Marcus and lead actress Kari Keegan had a major falling out during filming, particularly due to Marcus's insistent demands that she appear nude in a bathroom scene, despite Keegan stating she had refused from the beginning. - The original script featured Jason's brother, Elias, as the killer. This plotline was rejected, but the name Elias was given to Jason's father.
