The film is based on Mary Rodgers' novel 'Freaky Friday' (1972).
Kelly Osbourne agreed to play the role of Anna’s friend, but was forced to withdraw at the last moment.
The producers initially envisioned Jodie Foster for the role of Tess (as she played the daughter in the original 1976 version). Jodie declined to participate, seriously believing that the presence of a star could overshadow the beautiful plot.
