What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is credited to director Thomas Lee. This is a fictional pseudonym, similar to the more well-known Alan Smithee. For many years, the director, who for various reasons did not want his name mentioned in the credits, replaced his real name with the pseudonym Alan Smithee. After the film “Burn, Hollywood, Burn” (1997), the pseudonym became widely known to the general public, so the “American Directors Guild” decided to replace the pseudonym Alan Smithee with Thomas Lee.
  • The zero-gravity sex scene between Angela Bassett and James Spader was created from footage of scenes featuring Robin Tunnell and Peter Facinelli, with digital correction to darken Tunnell's skin tone.
  • The film's premiere was repeatedly postponed. The studio was dissatisfied with Walter Hill's version of the film, so they decided to bring in Francis Ford Coppola to re-edit the film and shoot necessary additional scenes.
  • Production of the film began as early as 1988. The project was known as "Dead Star." William Malone was originally slated to direct the film.
  • Jeffrey Wright was considered to direct the film, but he left the project just five weeks before filming began due to disagreements over the script.
