• The film is based on the novel of the same name by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.
• One of the roles is played by Mario Girotti, who later became known as Terence Hill.
• Initially, Luchino Visconti wanted to cast Nikolai Cherkasov in the lead role, but he was unable to participate in the film due to illness. Laurence Olivier was then considered, but he had no available space in his schedule. Ultimately, the studio, without consulting the director, hired Burt Lancaster, which initially displeased Visconti, but the two legends soon managed to work together and even become friends.
