Short description
When a promised job for Texan Michael fails to materialize in Wyoming, Mike is mistaken by Wayne to be the hitman he hired to kill his unfaithful wife, Suzanne. Mike takes full advantage of the situation, collects the money, and runs. During his getaway, things go wrong, and soon get worse when he runs into the real hitman, Lyle.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Despite the fact that the film is set in Wyoming, filming took place in Montana and Arizona. The film’s director and screenwriter, John Dahl, is originally from Montana.
  • John Dahl initially wanted Dennis Hopper to play Wayne Brown, but Hopper persuaded the director to give him the role of Lyle from Dallas.
  • Nicolas Cage received the lead role largely due to the recommendation of his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola, who greatly enjoyed Dahl's debut film “Kill Me Again” (1989).
  • Dwight Yoakam, who played the truck driver, used his own gun on set.
  • When the film was first shown to the public, none of the producers were seen at the screening.
