The prison helicopter is portrayed by a Soviet-made Ka-32 helicopter.
According to Ernie Hudson, he agreed to star in the film because he wanted to get away after filming Alex Proyas's "The Crow" and the death of actor Brandon Lee (1965-1993).
Ray Liotta agreed to play Robbins because he had always wanted to play an action hero.
400 extras played the Outsiders.
The rats that ran over Ray Liotta's character were laboratory rats.
The extras were mostly hikers from hostels in Cairns (a city in the Australian state of Queensland) and its surroundings.
According to the plot, the film's protagonist is convicted of murdering a commander, a crime committed in 2011 during combat operations in Libya. Of course, the filmmakers in 1994 could not have known that the NATO operation in Libya would take place specifically in 2011.
