Short description
Talented rookie race-car driver Jimmy Bly has started losing his focus and begins to slip in the race rankings. It's no wonder, with the immense pressure being shoveled on him by his overly ambitious promoter brother as well as Bly's romance with his arch rival's girlfriend Sophia. With much riding on Bly, car owner Carl Henry brings former racing star Joe Tanto on board to help Bly. To drive Bly back to the top of the rankings, Tanto must first deal with the emotional scars left over from a tragic racing accident which nearly took his life.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay himself. The initial version was 220 pages long.
  • The three-coin trick performed by Sylvester Stallone's character is reminiscent of one actually shown by Argentine Formula 1 five-time champion Juan Manuel Fangio (1911-1995).
  • Initially, Sylvester Stallone (one of the scriptwriters) intended to make a biopic about Brazilian race car driver Ayrton Senna (1960-1994), a three-time world champion who tragically died during a race.
  • Sylvester Stallone tried to persuade British racer Damon Hill and French driver Jean Alesi to appear in the film as guest stars; this was before negotiations with Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone fell through.
  • Filming took place from July 6 to October 12, 2000.
