Short description
Terminal Island, New York: 2020. Overcrowding in the US penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the 'Death Race', the biggest, most brutal event.

- To recreate prison life more convincingly, Paul W.S. Anderson and Jason Statham visited Corcoran – a maximum-security prison near Los Angeles.
- The Jensen Interceptor is the car after which Jensen Ames – the film's protagonist – was named.
- To prepare for the role, Jason Statham reduced his body fat from 20% to 6% over three months.
- The production used 35 cars, which were constantly maintained by a team of 85 mechanics. On average, it took approximately 6 weeks to modify and assemble each vehicle.
