What's left behind the scenes
- The scene of a screaming girl submerged in a bathtub was copied in the film "Requiem for a Dream." Darren Aronofsky purchased the rights to the animation in order to use this scene in his work.
- Originally, it was intended to shoot a feature film. Therefore, "cinematic" techniques of working with imagery are actively used in the film.
- The film's title refers to a clear Tokyo sky (a literal translation is "Pure Blue [Sky]"). It made sense in the novel, but lost its significance for the film.
- Katsuhiro Otomo illustrated the novel. He was the one who recommended his student Satoshi Kon for the position of film director.
