What's left behind the scenes

  • The project took 12 years to complete. Writer Roald Dahl (1916-1990) even doubted whether the project would ever be finished.
  • When the Centipede opens the door to the captain's cabin, it exclaims, "Is that...Skelegton?" The head of the Captain Jack Skellington puppet was taken from the stop-motion animated film *The Nightmare Before Christmas* (Henry Selick, 1993).
  • Initially, director Henry Selick considered making the entire film in stop-motion animation, but ultimately, due to financial considerations, he decided to make a live-action film.
