What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on a true story that occurred in New York in March 1984 with waitress Phyllis Penzo and police officer Robert Cunningham.
  • The diner building was constructed 'from scratch' in a parking lot. Interior scenes and exterior shots of the building were also filmed there. After filming, the set was dismantled.
  • The film was initially supposed to be titled “$2 Million Tip.” Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally intended to play the lead role, but he decided to star with John McTiernan in the action-comedy “Last Action Hero” (1993) instead of working with Andrew Bergman.
