What's left behind the scenes

  • Carlo Di Palma, who had worked with Woody Allen as a cinematographer for many years, had retired by the time filming began, but expressed a desire to work with Allen one more time. Studio management demanded that Di Palma undergo a thorough medical examination. His health did not allow him to pass it, and the studio refused to work with him. Two years later, in 2004, Di Palma died at the age of 73.
  • To a certain extent, the film is based on the story of Woody Allen himself, the screenwriter and director, from the time when he was a budding writer who married young, and then one day met someone older than him who told him a lot about life, humor, and philosophy (and eventually ended up in a mental institution).
  • The joke about the boxer, which Woody Allen's character tells, had already appeared in his previous film, "Crimes and Misdemeanors" (1989).
