Short description
This examination of a famous scandal from the 1970s explores the relationship between Barbara Baekeland and her only son, Antony. Barbara, a lonely social climber unhappily married to the wealthy but remote plastics heir Brooks Baekeland, dotes on Antony, who is homosexual. As Barbara tries to "cure" Antony of his sexuality -- sometimes by seducing him herself -- the groundwork is laid for a murderous tragedy.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In an interview with the Daily Mail, published on July 12, 2008, Sam Green (1940-2011) expressed outrage at being portrayed as bisexual in the film and categorically denied claims that Barbara Baekeland (1922-1972) had an intimate relationship with her son Anthony. Dansy sued the filmmakers, a lawsuit that was still ongoing at the time of his death in 2011. Green’s image, a close friend of Andy Warhol (1928-1987), also appears in the film “I Seduced Andy Warhol” (George Hickenlooper, 2006).
  • Beach scenes were filmed during the height of tourist season. According to director Tom Kalin, the location chosen for filming turned out to be a favorite beach for German nudists, who constantly wandered into the frame, seriously irritating both the film crew and Julianne Moore, who came to the set with her daughter Liv.
