- Matthew Broderick could have played the role of Johnny Utah.

- In the beach conversation scene between Bowden (Patrick Swayze) and Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves), Bowden says that Utah's board reminds him of an old 1957 Chevrolet. In the film "Dirty Dancing" (1987), Swayze's character drove exactly such a car.

- A point break is a surfing condition created by a protruding landform—a point or a breakwater. The wave rolling in from the open ocean breaks against this protrusion. The newly formed waves are characterized by stable frequency and power. Additionally, a calm zone is created, which surfers use to paddle to the area where the large waves begin.
- In the film, Swayze's character is named Bodhi, which is a shortened form of Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva, according to Buddhist mythology, is one who strives for spiritual enlightenment.
- To acquire all the skills necessary for the role, Keanu Reeves was assigned to a real FBI agent. He also took surfing lessons and trained with a football team.
- Two scenes were cut from the film: Bodhi and Utah in a truck. Utah shoots out of the left window. “It’s gonna be a good day, Johnny,” Bodhi shouts. Utah with a surfboard meets Harpo in his office.
