- According to director Mary Lambert, she initially intended to make a film centered around Ellie Creed, the only survivor from the first film. However, the film company did not accept this idea, so the script was rewritten, introducing new characters and a main villain. 13-year-old Edward Furlong, who had played one of the main characters in James Cameron's blockbuster "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" the previous year, was cast in the lead role.
- The prop hand of the creature at the beginning of the film is the hand of a skeleton from Tommy Lee Wallace's horror film "It" (1990).
- The scene where the dog tries to reach the rabbit cages was filmed in parts. It is believed that Clancy Brown's character equipped the cages with sirens and wired them with electricity, so anyone who touched them would receive an electric shock. The dog was specifically trained to nudge an object with its nose, which initially sparked—a purely visual effect—while ensuring the dog itself wasn't frightened.
