What's left behind the scenes

  • During filming, the male model was completely nude. Underwear was later added using computer technology; otherwise, the film would have received an R rating (individuals under 17 years of age are only permitted to view the film when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian).
  • Scenes with Jeffrey Tambor as the divorce lawyer were cut from the film at his own request. Tambor was so impressed with Diane Lane's performance that he convinced director Audrey Wells that the scenes involving him would have more impact if his character wasn't on screen.
  • Audrey Wells wanted to cast Polish actors for the roles of Polish immigrant workers, but was unable to do so due to issues with their visas, which the Italian government was in no hurry to resolve.
  • The original idea differed from what is shown in the film. According to it, Frances and her fiancé buy the estate together and enjoy their time in Tuscany together; in the film, however, she is already married and divorcing her husband due to his infidelity, and then travels to Tuscany where she purchases the estate.
