Short description
When a feisty little fox named Tod is adopted into a farm family, he quickly becomes friends with a fun and adorable hound puppy named Copper. Life is full of hilarious adventures until Copper is expected to take on his role as a hunting dog -- and the object of his search is his best friend!

What's left behind the scenes

  • The main plot was based on a novel by Daniel P. Mannix. In essence, however, all that was taken from the book were the names of the main characters.
  • One of the film's animators is the future director Tim Burton.
  • The name "Tod" comes from the Middle English word "todde", which means "fox".
  • This was the last Disney animated film to use the old "Buena Vista" logo at the beginning.
  • According to the film's original concept, Chief was supposed to die after being hit by a train, thereby making Copper's revenge against Tod more justified. However, this idea was revised due to the mistakes the Disney team learned from their experience creating "Bambi" (1942) and a similar incident in the animated film "Lady and the Tramp" (1955). As in "Bambi," Tod's mother is also killed, but she appears on screen for no more than three minutes, unlike Bambi's mother, who is a central character.
