Short description
An up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcée find their lives forever changed when a chance encounter brings them together, in a decade-spanning, deeply moving romance.

What's left behind the scenes

  • During the filming of an intimate scene between Florence Pugh (playing Almuth) and Andrew Garfield (playing Tobias), they became so immersed in their roles and so comfortable with each other that they didn’t hear the call of “Cut!”. When they suddenly realized they were still in character (for longer than intended), they noticed that the equipment had already been almost removed and everyone present was deliberately ignoring them, creating at least the illusion that they were alone together. Garfield later recounted in an interview that thanks to this incident, neither he nor Pugh experienced any awkwardness or embarrassment in subsequent intimate scenes.
  • During the filming of the childbirth scene, Florence Pugh, in the role of Almuth, was assisted by midwife Penny Taylor. She also consulted with the main character’s mother and sister, and the sound of labored breathing during childbirth was actually the breathing of the latter (the sister).
  • Filming the childbirth scene in a gas station restroom took two days. When filming was completed, Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, who played the main roles, sat among the set decorations for another quarter of an hour, recovering from the experience.
