During pre-production, it was assumed that the film would be rated R (under 17s admitted only with a parent or legal guardian), but after careful consideration, the studio decided to change the script to a PG-13 rating (not recommended for children under 13), which required changes to the plot, dialogue, and character descriptions. John August made all these changes.
The police station was actually just a facade attached to the building of the central public library of Los Angeles. It took 5 weeks to build the facade, and another week and a half to attach it to the building.
In the film, Miles asks his partner to let him take the car for a spin. In the next shot, the car takes off into the air, but when showing the view from the cockpit through the glass, a road barrier is visible.
The scene showing the police station (23rd minute) during Miles's first visit, when he exits the elevator, also appears a second time at the 52nd minute (after the interrogation) from a slightly different angle.
