What's left behind the scenes

  • The film's budget was so small that in the scene where Jason Patrick questions people about the person in the photograph, the filmmakers had to film ordinary passersby who, of course, knew nothing about the person in the photograph.
  • Specifically for filming, Ray Liotta gained 25 pounds (approximately 11.3 kilograms).
  • The word "fuck" is uttered 298 times in the film.
  • This project had more producers (21 people) than there were speaking characters in the film.
  • The role of Henry Oak could have gone to Harrison Ford and Alec Baldwin.
  • Being good friends with Joe Carnahan, Ray Liotta and Jason Patrick appeared in the film practically for free.
  • Joe Carnahan came up with the screenplay idea after watching Errol Morris's documentary "The Thin Blue Line".
  • Tom Cruise was so impressed with the film that he decided to serve as executive producer and secured a wider release than originally planned. He also convinced Joe Carnahan to direct 'Mission: Impossible III.' However, shortly before filming began, Carnahan left the project due to creative differences with Cruise.
  • The auto parts store where the film's final scene takes place was a real, functioning auto repair shop in Toronto. According to Jason Patrick, it was one of the most disgusting and horrible places he had ever filmed in.
