Short description
"This Is Spinal Tap" shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs, gold albums, name changes and undersold concert dates, along with the full host of requisite groupies, promoters, hangers-on and historians, sessions, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Experienced musicians were hired for the film, and they performed live music on set.
  • Over the years, 37 musicians have passed through the group. Excluding the two original members – the keyboardist and the bassists (from the original lineup and the current lineup) – that means 32 drummers have played in the band, some of whom died in the strangest of ways.
  • When Nigel uses a violin during his guitar solo, it's a parody of Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, who repeatedly used a violin bow to play the guitar during concerts.
